Conditions of Entry for
The Auckland Watercolour Society Open Prize 2018
The Auckland Watercolour is offering this prize for the best original watercolour painting on the topic 'Life in Auckland'. The prize is open for submission from members of the general public, and the winning painting will be framed at the society's cost and exhibited in an upcoming exhibition. Deadline for submissions is March 31st 2018.
The first prize is a prize of $100.
By submitting your painting to the open prize you agree to the following conditions of entry:
- The prize is judged by
the committee of the Auckland Watercolour Society Inc.
- Everyone except the
judges is eligible to enter the competition.
- A photograph (.jpg preferred) of the whole
painting with sufficient resolution to recognize detail has to
be submitted by 31st March 2018 to watercolour.org.nz@gmail.com.
The society is not responsible for technical difficulties in transmission. Please keep the image file size below 1MB.
- The painting has to be an original
work by the submitting person alone. No copies or work done under
supervision of an artist is eligible.
- The painting has to be a watercolour painting on the topic 'Life in Auckland'
on an artists' grade paper or board, painted with transparent artists'
watercolour paint only, no gouache and no acrylics. A title for the painting can be provided at submission time or at a later stage.
- The entrant
gives, if the painting is among the finalists, permission to use the
submitted or other photographs of the painting for publicity purposes
of the Auckland Watercolour Society in such ways that are common practice
for art prizes.
- The entrant understands that if
the painting is chosen as one of the finalists, the original painting has to
be provided and left in custody of the Auckland Watercolour Society for the time necessary for judging and possibly exhibiting the work. The
painting has to be provided unframed; if this is not possible please contact
the society whether exceptions are possible.
- The entrant agrees that in case
being among the finalists, the painting may be exhibited at one of the
exhibitions of the Auckland Watercolour Society in 2018 for the full duration
of the exhibition. The entrant gives permission to have the painting matted and
framed by a professional framing business in a standard frame of the
committee's choosing at the society's cost.
- The work will be handled by
senior members of the society who are experienced in exhibiting artwork. Nonetheless,
the entrant accepts that the Auckland Watercolour Society will not be
responsible for any damage or theft which may occur to the art work. The
works are not insured. Entrants should arrange for their own insurance
if deemed necessary.
- The entrant accepts that the society may cancel the
proceedings at any stage.
