Notes from the February Meeting

In the first meeting of the year, Gailene Marsden shared with us her approach to watercolour, her personal style as well as some of the experimental work she is looking into. Gailene was our first prize winner at our Auckland Watercolour Society Merit awards in 2015, and also was a winner in the mixed-media category at the Royal Easter Show last year. Gailene demonstrated wet-in-wet techniques and lifting techniques with the brush, and went for us through a number of tips how to make the composition more lively; we had a good chat about the different materials Gailene is using and the ones she is experimenting with in the future.

Before the talk, Gailene was so kind to give the critique of our monthly challenge. We had again a very good turnout to the topic of creating a composition in a square format.
